Through a thoughtfully curated calendar of unique events, it fosters connection, artistic expression and community growth. As a self-sustaining, for-profit business, Luminous remains deeply committed to preserving its soulful presence while evolving as a hub for creativity, empowerment and meaningful collaboration.

Luminous Gallery | Studio, owned by Pacific Northwest fiber artist Dana Alkebu-Lan, invites visitors to experience a harmonious fusion of art, nature and community in the heart of the San Juan Islands at the First Friday Art Walks, featuring local artists and conviviality, just steps from the ferry landing.
Nestled in picturesque Friday Harbor, this colorful, light-filled space blends a working fiber art studio with an intimate gallery, creating an inspiring environment for a variety of events, workshops and retreats. Dana’s vision for Luminous Gallery | Studio is to create a space where art and community come together in harmony, offering a space for artists, teachers and healers to share their gifts.
Beyond its artistic offerings, Luminous Gallery | Studio (100 Front St. S.) has become a hub for creative and meaningful gatherings. The venue hosts a range of unique events such as sculpting workshops, painting classes, sound bath journeys, wellness support groups. First Friday Art Walks feature local guest artists and musicians, currently you’ll find artist Kim Bruder’s vibrant paintings showcasing the essence of the Pacific Northwest.
The studio’s inviting atmosphere is further enhanced by its home-inspired design, with thoughtfully arranged vignettes and lounge spaces that encourage conversation and introspection. Whether enjoying the gallery as a private event venue or simply visiting to experience Dana’s art, Luminous Gallery | Studio fosters an environment where creativity and connection thrive.

What’s Included in Your Event Package
The light and airy space is is designed with:
Two 6’ farmhouse style tables with seating for 10 (tables together) or 12 (tables separated)
Comfy sectional sofa, seating for 5-7
Loveseat and upholstered chairs, seating for 4
Total seating for 24-26 folks
Gallery Lighting or Loft Lighting options
Seven large windows with flowy linen drapes and blinds
Gorgeous hand painted teal and gold sparkle floor
Microwave, small fridge, tea kettle, tea and compostable cups
Filtered drinking water and compostable cups
Coat rack for 6-8
Name tags and metallic markers
Tea light candles, diffuser with essential oils
Electric heat and AC
900 sq. ft.
Accessibility: The building does not have an elevator, there 15 outside stairs to access Luminous Gallery’s entrance and another 8 stairs to access the venue
Location: 100 Front Street S, Friday Harbor, WA 98250 ~ upper loft of the Cannery Landing building next to the ferry dock
2025 Rental Rates*
Minimum 1 hour setup plus 30-45 minutes cleanup is highly recommended.
$200 deposit requested, refundable upon successful cleanup of space after event

What’s the process to have an event at Luminous?
Check the event calendar for availability
Submit a proposal for your class or event
Proposals are reviewed within 1-3 business days based upon the Guiding Principles above.
Once approved, a rental agreement and invoice will be sent
After the rental agreement is signed and payment received your class/event will be posted on the Luminous Gallery | Studio calendar and is ready for you to promote
Prior to your event, a walkthrough will be scheduled to introduce you to all the features Luminous provides. You’ll be given a pre/post event checklist and entry/bathroom codes

NEST ~ Fall/Winter 2024
The essence Gaia is whispering: It’s time to nest. To settle, rest, get comfortable, nourish, be still, get quiet, reflect, pause, find warmth, sleep, dream. Her spiraling gown is made of gold shimmery fabric, grape vines and pink tonal ostrich feathers. She rises from a nest made of lavender and oat grass. Her bodice is draped in gold sequins, lit by her eternal heart. A knitted rose wool shawl drapes her wise shoulders. Her crown of white fluffy rabbit-tail grass connects her to the stars. Glittery translucent hummingbirds hover around her, a wise owl perches on her shoulder, a magical peacock with gold tipped feathers whispers in her ear. Tiny nests full of crystal eggs rest upon her gown, more owls sitting on crescent moons call in the four directions. She commands your attention and encourages you to take a deep breath. “It’s time to nest” she whispers to your soul.
